PAMELA SMITH, MD completed specialty training in psychiatry at New York–Presbyterian University Hospital of Columbia & Cornell and later served on the faculty of the UCLA Medical School, the staff of the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital (NPH), and the visiting faculty of the UCLA Department of Psychology. Her training has included sport psychology education and externships with sports medicine practitioners providing clinical interventions and mental skills training for amateur and professional athletes and performing artists. While at UCLA/NPH, she served as the Medical Director of the Partial Hospital & Intensive Outpatient Programs and attending psychiatrist for varied services (inpatient, outpatient, emergency room, & consultation-liaison).  

Dr. Smith has also worked in developing countries as a mental health consultant on humanitarian aid projects in collaboration with nonprofit organizations and agencies including the International Medical Corps (IMC), World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and UNHCR. As a mental health consultant, she has trained clinicians to provide basic mental health interventions in settings where mental health resources are limited and has created community sporting activities for youth as a means for psychosocial support and development. Dr. Smith currently serves as a member of the International Society for Sports Psychiatrists Education Committee.


Dr. Smith utilizes a network of mental health and medical professionals who have experience managing athletes and provide varied services including, psychological skills training, performance coaching, life skills coaching, individual and group psychotherapy, psychotropic medication therapy, and other sports medicine interventions.  For a referral and assessment, please email: info@improveyourmentalgame.com
